Andruw Jones, 加油，好嗎？

Andruw Jones 在歷經近兩年慘澹的成績之後，洛杉磯道奇隊終於要處理掉這個年薪高達一千四百多萬美金的前明星中外野手。

要如何從一個超級重砲手，在沒有受到什麼太嚴重的傷勢影響下，於極短時間內成績滑落到連一支安打都很難產的跌股球員，我想 Andruw Jones 的確是一個相當值得研究的案例。他今年的成績如下：

這種突破「Mendoza Line」的表現，在大聯盟史上當然不可能沒有其他人和他一樣慘。用 BR 的 PI 資料庫去查，並把 AB 限制在「200≦AB≦210」的範圍，則 Andrew Jones 今年的成績還只能排到第五名：

可是，前四名中有三名是 1900 年代以前的古人，距今最近的 Charlie Armbruste 也已經是一百年前了。換句話說，百年來 Andruw Jones 是在 200~210 個打數中間的球員中打擊率最低的。

若把範圍放寬到「200≦AB≦220」，則 Andruw Jones 的排名降到第八，多了兩名近代人，分別是 Ray Oyler 和 Dick Tracewski。兩人都是在 1968 年創下這種成績。

不過如果去翻閱這兩個人的生涯記錄，只能說有這種成績並不意外。他們的職業生涯和 Andruw Jones 比起來真的可以說是 XX 比雞腿，因此更顯示出 Andruw Jones 退化之快，讓人實在相當好奇。

再把範圍放寬到「200≦AB≦230」，則 Andruw Jones 終於退出十名以外。

不過新進來陪榜的仍舊大多是百年前的古代人，只有 1975 年的 Jim Mason 較為近代。如果把 AB 上限拿掉，則 Andruw Jones 會退到第 27 名。

稍微整理一下，在前二十六名球員裡面，1900 年代以前的共計有超過一半的 16 人，死球時代（1900-1918）則有四人，剩下六人裡面則全是 1975 年以前的球員。裡面打數超過三百的球員只有 1909 年的 Bill Bergen（346AB）、1888 年的 Jack Burdock（325AB）、 1886 年的 Sam Crane（301AB）和 1885 年的 Joe Gerhardt（399AB）。

至於 Mario Mendoza 在 1979 年（也就是這個非正式的棒球術語「Mendoza Line」出現的時間）的成績：

所以還頗令人好奇如果 Andruw Jones 在 2008 年也能打到 373 AB 的話，是否就能突破「Mendoza Line」。當然要在如此低迷的狀況下還能累積到這麼多打席，除非是 Joe Torre 或 Don Mattingly 覺得自己已經賺得夠飽了。

不過我又仔細查了一下，發現 Mario Mendoza 還挺冤的。因為在死球時代結束後到 1979 年之間，還有 38 名球員在 300AB 以上打出比他更低的打擊率：

最經典的應該就是 1940 年的 Frankie Crosetti，在出賽 145 場累積了 546AB 的情況下還能打出 0.194 這種成績，把「Mendoza Line」改成「Crosetti Line」也不為過！1968 年的 Tom Tresh 曾以 0.195 的打擊率逼近過這個超級底線，之後就真的再也沒人能破底了。這種情況在現代棒球球員汰換率如此高，一打不好農場隨時都有人可以補上的情況下，能在超級低迷的打擊率累積到 500AB 的人，在近二十年來只有一人，他叫做 Pat Burrell！

從二十一世紀開始以來，講到史上最強第一棒，很多人可能會說是鈴木一朗。可是直到最近 BBWAA 公布了今年名人堂候選人名單，Rickey Henderson 的大名再度喚起了許多球迷對於史上最強第一棒人選的定義。

Rickey Henderson 從 1979 年登上大聯盟開始，整整橫跨了四個世代都有出賽紀錄，直到 2003 年才退休（雖然他本人好像從來沒有正式宣告過），簡直是一個活生生的近代美國職棒的活歷史。近代像他一樣縱橫大聯盟跨越四個世代的球星，我原本第一個想到的是另個老妖怪 Julio Franco，不過仔細查他的紀錄，才發現其實他只橫跨了三個世代（1982-2007）。而另一個在我腦海中浮現出來的人物，就屬「特快車」Nolan Ryan 了（1966-1993）。

Rickey Henderson 最驚人的地方便在於他的速度，因此各項有關盜壘方面的紀錄幾乎都是用他的腳跑出來的，而且那些記錄所呈現的數據已經不是「恐怖」，而是「變態」了。以現今棒球選手寧願一棒幹一支大的，把球狠狠地打出牆外再慢慢跑回來，的確是比賣了老命在壘包上跟對方防守球員玩躲貓貓要來的輕鬆許多。比方 1982 年單季 130 次盜壘的成績，雖然還不是大聯盟最高紀錄，只是第二高而已，但最高紀錄（138次）是 Hugh Nicol 在 1887 年所締造，這種死球時代之前的球場規格和現今完全不同，連手套都還沒發展完成，所以很多那個年代的球員盜壘次數都相當地多。1985 年有個新人想要挑戰 Rickey Henderson 的盜壘記錄，這可謂第一代「腿哥」的小伙子名叫 Vince Coleman，結果那年「只」跑了 110 次盜壘成功，距離 Rickey Henderson 的最高紀錄還差 20 次。接下來兩年他又各自「只」跑出了 107 次和 109 次的盜壘成功記錄，要逼近到 10 次以內的機會都沒有。Vince Coleman 雖然最終都沒有成功，但這種盜壘成績以現在的眼光看來仍舊是相當變態的。因為自從他在 1988 年完成了單季 109 次盜壘成功的成績之後，如今過了二十年，大聯盟已經再也沒有任何一個人能把單季盜壘次數突破一百次了。這二十年來，大聯盟單季最高盜壘紀錄頂多只能到七十幾次而已，以下列舉這二十年來單季盜壘成功超過七十次的球員：

See？不要說是逼近 Rickey Henderson 了，就連逼近 Vince Coleman 在 1988 年的紀錄都還差一大截。如果覺得 Vince Coleman 的速度已經夠快的話，那就更難想像 Rickey Henderson 那神鬼般的速度以及盜壘技巧了。

由於 Rickey Henderson 一季盜壘成功次數大概是其他比較常盜壘的球員三四年累積的盜壘成功記錄，再加上他打的夠久，因此累積的生涯盜壘成功次數不但是史上第一，而且還是唯一突破到一千次以上的球員。

上面這一串名單，其中有六個人名字旁邊有「+」，表示已經進入名人堂。因此 Rickey Henderson 今年首度入選，即獲得壓倒性的票數「凍蒜」。在 Rickey Henderson 進入名人堂後，這十個人裡面只剩下第五名的 Time Raines、第六名的 Vince Coleman 以及第八名的 Arlie Latham 還沒被選入。其中 Tim Raines 是在 2007 年首度進入名人堂票選名單，不過得票率一直不高，今年也只拿到 22.6% 的票，所以他可能還要再奮鬥好幾年（(PS) 我寫到這邊才發現 Tim Raines 的職業生涯也是橫跨四個世代(1979-2002)）。至於 Arlie Latham 和 Vince Coleman，以他們生涯的帳面成績來看，應該是不可能進入候選人名單的。

最高的 Kenny Loften 還距離 Honus Wagner 一百次。高齡四十一歲的他雖然一直沒有宣告退休，但是 2007 年幫印地安人隊在季後賽痛擊洋基隊後（許多球迷應該還有印象），就再也沒有任何球隊跟他簽大聯盟約了。第二名的 Barry Bonds 同樣也是沒有正式宣告退休，最近報載說他還去動了個小手術以宣示他隨時要重返球場的決心，不過依照他目前在大聯盟如此「黑軍」的情況，即便真的回的來，我想他的目標應該只會放在全壘打上面吧！第三名便是網路上面被大家暱稱為「腿哥」的 Juan Pierre。扣掉 2000 年新人年只有七次盜壘成功的紀錄外，從 2001 年到現在平均每年盜壘成功次數都有 40 此以上。以他目前 30 歲的年齡，即便每年仍舊是有 40SB，再給他打個十年，可能連九百次的邊都沾不到，更何況考慮年齡增加後的速度衰退因素，個人預估他在退役前頂多累積到七百多次。第四名到第九名的年紀都比 Juan Pierre 大，所以基本上已經不用太指望。至於第十名的 Carl Crawford，也是個可以輕鬆一年跑出個 40 次以上盜壘成功的人，假設讓他打到四十歲退休，不考慮衰退因素，則勉強可以逼近 1000 次。無論如何，都顯示出 Rickey Henderson 在他生涯累積盜壘成功次數上面是建立起多麼不可撼動的地位。

當然盜壘盜多了，失敗的次數相對來說也不可能少，因此 Rickey Henderson 也保有大聯盟單季最多次被盜壘刺的紀錄：

而同一年（1982）也是他創下生涯最高單季 130 次盜壘成功的那一年。換算起來他那年的盜壘成功率仍舊是高達 75%！要達到這紀錄表示至少單季要嘗試盜壘超過 42 次以上。若簡單地以五成的成功率來看表示一年要嘗試盜壘 84 次。雖然這數字對現在的球員來講不算太多，但如果一個球員的盜壘成功率只有五成，那教練應該會請他乖乖地在壘包上不要隨便輕舉妄動才是。

想當然而，生涯盜壘失敗最多的紀錄也讓老韓給包了：

有一場 Rickey Henderson 的比賽相當有趣，那便是他生涯單場比賽最多次盜壘成功的比賽，次數是五次，發生在 1989/7/29 於奧克蘭主場迎戰西雅圖水手隊時。

不過這場比賽運動家卻被狂電，因為第一局水手隊就整整打下了八分！這大概就是為什麼 Rickey Henderson 盜壘那麼多次，但水手隊的捕手 Scott Bradley 卻沒被換下去的原因吧！只是水手隊的先發投手還能如此沈的住氣，也實在是相當了得，老韓難道不怕被他的快速球砸到嗎？

為什麼要這樣說？因為那場比賽水手隊的先發投手叫做........Randy Johnson！當年大個還只是個職棒二年級生。


這場 80 年代末期的比賽還有另外一個球員目前仍是現役，他便是水手隊的游擊手 Omar Vizquel。


他另外一個在大聯盟第一的紀錄便是生涯得分記錄。這記錄有賴於他長年都打第一棒所造成。雖然在單季得分記錄的排名上，Rickey Henderson 只有排到第五十八名（因為前面大部分的人都是十九世紀的球員），不過在生涯累積記錄上，短期內若想要被別人突破，只有一種可能。。。。

Hurled four straight complete games August 20-September 5... Had a M.L.-high 10 complete games for the second straight season, equaling his career-high... Matched his career-best with 11 strikeouts July 1 at Philadelphia... Selected to the N.L. All-Star team, but did not pitch... Missed his first start as a member of the Braves August 14 vs. Florida with the flu... Concluded the season with 21.0 consecutive scoreless innings September 16-27... Became 1st pitcher in history to post a .900 winning percentage (.905) with 20 or more decisions... Was 2nd in the majors with a .197 opponents batting average against... Also, tied for 1st in the N.L. in IP (209.2) and shutouts (3) and was 3rd in strikeouts (181).

再度宰制了國家聯盟的打者，創下了史無前例的賽揚四連霸記錄，連續第二年拿下所有賽揚獎的第一名選票。Sandy Koufax 是在他之前史上唯一連續兩年全票通過的投手（1965~ 66）。連續第六年拿下金手套獎。連續第三年被 TSN 選為年度最佳投手。防禦率 1.63，使他成為 Walter Johnson (1918~ 19)之後唯一一個連續兩年防禦率低於 1.70 的投手。防禦率當然排名第一（第二名是野茂英雄的 2.56），勝投並列第一（另一個是美聯金鶯隊的 Mussina）。他的防禦率比國聯平均 4.18 還低了 2.55。連續第三年拿下防禦率王。在五月二十八日對上太空人隊的比賽，投出生涯第一次一安打比賽（九局、一安打、一責失、一保送、三振七名打者）。之前最少安打的一次則是三支安打。從六月三日到七月十三日的比賽裡，連續 51 局沒投出過任何四壞球保送。整個球季在 209.2局的投球裡只保送了 23 名打者，平均每九局保送 0.99 人，當然又是大聯盟第一。五月底時被選為國聯單週最佳投手（兩勝零敗，共十八局，兩責失，三振十五名打者）。被選為國聯七月份最佳投手，成績是四勝零敗，在 49.2 局的投球裡三振 49 名打者，防禦率 1.27。九月時再度拿下這個獎項，分別是他生涯第三和第四次贏得單月最佳投手。從五月二十三日到八月四日，拿下生涯最佳，同時也是國聯記錄的十連勝。在九月十六號對上紅人隊的比賽，拿下客場十七連勝，創下大聯盟記錄（最後這個記錄停在十八連勝）。從 1994 年七月二日一直到 95 球季終時，他在二十場客場比賽裡，拿下十八勝零敗，防禦率 0.99（154.2 局，十七分責失）的成績。從八月二十日到九月五日，連續四場比賽完投，連續第二年投出生涯最高的十場完投，全大聯盟第一。七月一日對上費城人隊的比賽，再度投出生涯最高的十一次三振。被選入國聯明星隊，但是並沒有上場投球。在八月十四日，到勇士隊之後的第一次跳過先發，原因是感冒。從九月十六日到二十七日，球季的最後二十七局都沒有失分。成為大聯盟史上承擔勝敗數超過二十場的投手中，唯一一個勝率超過九成（.909）的投手。對手打擊率 .197 排名第二、投球局數209.2 局，和 Danny Neagle 並列第一。完封三場，和野茂英雄並列第一。三振 181 名打者，排名第三。

這一支安打同時也是支全壘打，所以讓 Maddux 無法完封。當時進行到八局下半，Maddux 還呈現完全比賽狀態，沒有被安打，沒有保送（後來在第九局保送 Craig Biggio），也沒有丟分。結果第一位上來的 Jeff Bagwell 就賞他一發全壘打破了 Maddux 的完全比賽！

附帶一提的是，這場比賽太空人隊先發投手 Darryl Kile，就是 2002 年紅雀隊那個球季中在旅館內猝死的 Darryl Kile。


這場比賽，也是 Greg Maddux 生涯最接近完全比賽和無安打比賽的一場球。
